Maddie, a young woman who seems to be destined having to take care of everyone and everything but her own. With her father suffering from advanced stage Parkinson, her absent mother and an unreliable brother, making her the primary caregiver in the family, she is stuck between wanting to experience life and fulfilling responsibility.
When her mother suddenly comes back from Ghana to look after her father, Maddie takes a leap into “adult life”. Wanting to be independent, she moves out of the family home, tries dating and advocates for her voice to heard, sick of being the only Black person at her job.
Maddie’s voice is vulnerable, passionate and complex, making Jessica Georges debut novel to a truly amazing book. A beautiful Coming-of-Age story filled with humor but still managing to capture what it not only means to be a Woman but to be Black Woman.
